We know all too well that many news sites over-egg potential weather incidents to bait a few extra clicks. For example, you’ll see reports of 4 feet of snow when, in reality, the forecast is for a light dusting if you’re lucky.
However, there has been ample warning of Storm Eowyn approaching and the Met Office has issued a red warning for strong winds in parts of Northern Ireland and Scotland.
The Met Office website explains that red warnings mean that you can expect to see:
- Flying debris (which can result in danger to life).
- Very dangerous driving conditions.
- Damage to buildings and power line.
- Large waves and items from beaches thrown onto coastal roads.
So, with this in mind, you probably wouldn’t want to send somebody to Portrush (a coastal town in Northern Ireland) in the midst of the storm – would you? Well that’s exactly what Sky News did today!
Then, suprisingly, they link to a video of reporter Thomas Moore with the anchor “Sky reporter nearly blown over by storm” – Madness.
In the 2 minute video, Phil bravely (er, stupidly) battles the elements and explains how bad the conditions are and the reiterates the fact that the police have asked people to stay at home for their own safety. He should be arrested for breaking that advice and Sky News fined for staff neglect.
