Some say that Kidlington is the largest village in the UK (and perhaps Europe). It sits north of Oxford and is home to over 13,000 residents. It is such a large place that it is served by 9 schools, its own fire station and 2 police stations. And that is very good news given a recent article in the Oxford Mail where a resident said they felt safer in South Africa than in Kidlington after an attempted bag snatch in the local Sainsbury’s superstore.
Now, as with all places where large numbers of people live, there will always be some level of crime. Downtown Kidlington is no different. We haven’t taken the time to actually pop to Kidlington and speak to any real people but the local Facebook community is rife with reports of criminal activity that would scare the crap out of those in Johannesburg.
In one extremely worrying incident, an anonymous Kidlington resident called out anther who put two bags of dog poo in their green bin and said they should be “utterly ashamed”. In another, somebody asked about a very aggressive man “effin an jeffin” at his poor dog.

In response to the Oxford Mail story, Stephen Holmes commented “Iz anyone being shot in Sainsbury’s?”. While another commenter suggested 24,000 people are killed in South Africa each year which can’t be compared to a purse being snatched in the arse end of Kidlingon.
Still, despite the evidence, Ed Burnett, the author of the article, runs with the headline “Oxfordshire Sainsbury’s ‘more dangerous than South Africa'” 😂🤣
One thing is for sure, any South African who is thinking about trying to escape the high level of gun crime, gang violence, drug smuggling, murders and corruption will certainly have to think twice about emigrating to Kidlington after reading this fine piece of journalism in the Oxford Mail.
Finally, we’d like to send our best wishes to those living in the once leafy suburb of Oxford that has apparently gone to shit so badly in the last few years. Stay safe people and get out if you can.
